About Referral Services

Referral services, such as “ASK…” or “411-…”, only refer callers to lawyers – they are not law firms. Any of the law firms or physicians they refer have simply paid money to be on their referral lists. Payment of this fee is generally the only criteria required for a law firm to be on the list.

Many law firms, such as Avera & Smith, prefer not to be on referral lists since the referral service provides very little specific information about a law firm’s true qualifications or capabilities.

While there are no doubt many qualified lawyers on the lists of referral services, there is no guarantee that using one will help you find the lawyer who is best qualified to handle your case.
