Avera & Smith Retained By Judah Family In Shooting

Avera & Smith to Launch Investigation Into Death of Victim Matt Judah

December 21, 2011– Gainesville, Florida – The law firm of Avera & Smith, LLP, has been selected by the family of shooting victim, Robert Matthew “Matt” Judah to investigate the circumstances of his death. Judah, 36, was shot in the abdomen on October 20, 2011, while shooting skeet at Forest Grove Baptist Church with other church members. Judah subsequently died during a follow-up surgery on October 29, 2011.

The alleged shooter, Patrick Allen McCall, 71, who lives across the street from the church, was arrested after a 3-hour standoff with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Department SWAT team. He has been charged with First Degree Attempted Felony Murder.

“Our firm will assist the Judah family in making sure that the person responsible for Matt’s death is also held accountable in a civil court of law,” said Mark Avera, Managing Partner of Avera & Smith, LLP. “Matt’s family now suffers from his tragic and premature death. Actions have consequences. It is our job to make sure that the serious consequences of Matt’s death are felt by the person responsible for this horrible act.
